Maison Margiela's fall-winter show recently took place, and the brand made its mark with its theme of the excesses of consumerism and the adaptability of clothing to everyday life.
We were able to see a good number of new and original pieces such as coats inspired by the world of motor sports as well as technical blazers. What nevertheless caught the attention of the spectators were the pairs used throughout the show.
Today, MM6 Maison Margiela officially announces its collaboration with Salomon, offering two new silhouettes dubbed the Cross High and Cross Low. Both styles are inspired by trail running shoes, tapping perfectly into Salomon’s outdoor roots as well as Maison Margiela’s penchant for subverting the norm, resulting in a harmonious blend of high-tech and rugged aesthetics.
Salomon’s design philosophy is evident, with the Speedcross being reinterpreted by the fashion house to become more elongated and sleeker. Likewise, the shape of both shoes is long and fluid – the lower is constructed using an inner mesh slip-on and an integrated ripstop gaiter that acts as a covering for the foot and also a structural architecture, giving the upper a very dynamic shape.
The upper is not too different in its ability to add volume to the foot. In addition, we also find the Sensifit speed lacing technology to once again recall the Trail.
Speaking on the collaboration, Maison Margiela said: "Our motivation was to create a shoe that could easily transition between urban landscapes and the great outdoors - a unique product that maintained both Salomon's high-performance specifications and also resonated with Maison Margiela’s contemporary aesthetic. The core idea, however, was the same as it still is for us. Our goal was to push Salomon’s performance-driven designs to a point where "They fit perfectly into the Maison Margiela wardrobe."
Take a look at the Maison Margiela x Salomon collaboration, they will be available on November 11, 2022
